Project

Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland
Luge single & double development

Task

  • Overall computer-aided sled analysis to reveal potentials for further improvement
  • Development of methods for performance prediction and sled adjustment
  • Support of the data analysis using numeric simulations

The task

The german luge federation joined forces with iXent’s team in early 2020 with the aim of performing an entire system check-up of a men’s single luge with the use of computational methods. Therefor iXent started to develop a full-featured computer model of a single luge which was verified by an extensive testing program using a wide range of measurement equipment. With the aid of our simulation tools we generated deeper understanding of complex interrelationships of the sled itself and the interface to the track. Static and dynamic simulations were used to point out the conflict of driveability and performance.

Integrating and adding these capabilities into BSD’s software environment results in a powerful tool, where historical data are stored and based on these predictions can be made.

Passing the 2020/2021 season in review shows that the lugers put the new insights into practice in an impressive matter.

Since working closely with dedicated athletes helping them to improve their sports equipment fits the working philosophy at iXent, we’re delighted to see the project going into the next round and heading towards the upcoming winter Olympics in Beijing 2022.
